What You’ll Learn

  • Goals Continued (00:30)

  • Not all the Goals at Once (24:27)

  • The Barns (28:10)

It turns out…we have a LOT of goals! Ok…maybe not…but we really did enjoy talking about them, so we broke this one up into two episodes. Still…we’d LOVE to hear what your goals are, so email us at brittany@thedeliberateday.org or DM us on Instagram and share them with us!

The Deliberate Day 12-Week Planner is on sale in the shop! If you follow us on Instagram THIS is the planner you see almost every day in stories, and Brittany has used it every, single day for over five years now!

It is what she uses to get ahead …it gives her clarity and focus, and honestly, a massive amount of peace. There are SO many people, things, and thoughts…when Brittany can look at these things in the morning and list the MOST important, it sets her up for success.

Each evening, she looks back at the day, sees where she was successful, where she struggled, and what needs to be changed for tomorrow.

If this sounds like something YOU need right now, head to The Deliberate Day and put the 12-Week Planner into your cart and use the code PODCASTMOM to get 20% off!

Goals Continued…(00:30)

Brittany’s next goal is to bless her home by decluttering one room a month, WITH the children. Yes…inviting the kids in DOES make it harder, but she and Brandon are raising adults, so the extra effort to include the kids is definitely worth it!

Her next goal is to replace an aging hot water heater (this is a VERY adulty goal). Currently, their family is taking a LOT of cold showers! They are probably going to go tankless, even though it will encourage longer showers. Coincidentally, Kevin and I are Team Tankless too!

A third bless her home goal is to put some money into the garage. She’d like to make it where saws can be moved out, tools are more accessible, and upgrade the storage.

For me, I’m combining the home habits with raising adults. Our talk with Sterling Jaquith really inspired me to look at the systems in my home, and strive to have them working…even without me! Last year, I turned over most of the laundry duties to the children (they are each responsible for their own), and it has been excellent! Mostly because many of my kids are the same size and I can’t tell them apart. So…the goal is to outline responsibilities, and begin training (which will take longer than we’d like it to take).

The next goal for Brittany is financial responsibility, and it’s woven into many of the goals. Her family will be having a reunion, and that will require saving for. She also wants to give the cars some love this year, so the vehicles can continue serving them.

My next goal is a Thanksgiving 2040 goal, which is something that I used to cling to when I had a LOT of littles. I would dream of the time when my kids would come back home and spend time with us…more than likely in 2040. So our first goal is outfitting the kids with a stand-up paddleboard and kayaks, and the means to transport them so we can be a family that does human-powered water activities.

Brittany’s last goal is family growth and relationships (which she planned with Brandon…something relatively new). They sat down and considered their why (the ‘why’ that makes you cry-Lisa Canning), and it is, “We’ve been entrusted with the love, care, and right-upbringing of our children, and we want to use and spend our resources pouring into our family unit.” The family will be dreaming together about the road-trip to and from the family reunion…much like the big road-trip they took a few years ago.

Another goal that fits into the family growth and relationships theme for Brittany is the Conqueror’s Challenge (a virtual challenge that results in an actual badge). Brittany and her family used the 2023 badge, chose 23 miles as a family (which was just enough), and when the badge came in, it was HUGE for the entire family. For this year, they’ll be doing Conqueror 2024, and the kids have some badges they’d like to go for as well! The badges are a physical reminder of what the family has accomplished together!

My next Thanksgiving 2040 goal is one date each week. Our conversation with Kathleen Leblanc really encouraged me to prioritize my husband, and connecting with him weekly on a date night. So, we’ll be using all the amazing resources, as well as the FREE month of the Catholic Date Night membership!

My final goal is coffee cozy…kaffekos in Norwegian. It’s a goal of rest each day, that includes painting three times a week.

Not All the Goals at Once (24:27)

Brittany and Brandon looked at their themes, and got serious about what they could actually do. They considered resources, capacity, and what’s actually possible, and considered how long it might actually take to reach the goals. Both our families took January to consider what our goals would be for the year…taking time up front is worth it! Creating more reasonable expectations (especially as moms) is important.

The Barns (28:10)

Dreaming out loud is just the BEST! Brittany and I have The Barns, and we’ve been dreaming about them for at least 5 years now! It will be a place for creative endeavors, business fairs, shops, you name it! We’re realizing right now that finding jobs for teenagers is really tough…jobs that will give them skills they can take into their adult lives and learn responsibility.

The Barns could be a wonderful thing for our families, yes…but also for our community and the communities around us.

Moms…you SHOULD set goals. Get moving in the right direction. If goals are feeling a bit too big now, pick systems. Goals come in many colors, shapes, and sizes…and you are the best person suited to change things in your home!

Message us! Send us a DM with ONE thing you’re going to start, or email us at brittany@thedeliberateday.org!

Finally…leave us a review so we can reach more moms just like YOU!

And sweet momma, don’t ever forget…

You are doing beautiful work!
