  • Why We Continue to Homeschool (12:15)

  • Takeaways (36:10)

  • Invitation (36:45)

Welcome back to the Deliberate Day Podcast...we're your hosts, Brittany & Tiffany and today is OUR why for homeschooling.

There are as many different reasons to homeschool as there are options for curriculum, and your reasons will even change over time...because homeschooling is a journey WITH your kids and you are ALL growing through it.

We also want to add a caveat that we don't believe everyone should be homeschooled. We do feel strongly about it for our families (as you’ll be hearing), but we also recognize that homeschooling is a very personal decision based on your unique family and situation and we fully understand that it IS a privilege to homeschool.

Why We Started Homeschooling (00:50)

Brittany’s Story…

I was homeschooled growing up and I was on the fence about homeschooling my own because at the time my oldest was at the age for Kindergarten,

  • My oldest was getting in trouble for talking too much, even though he was finishing his work, recess was being taken away repeatedly.

  • The final straw was when my son got in trouble and was sent to detention without my knowledge.

Tiffany’s Story…

I was raised by a champion of public school (my mom was actually on the school board in our district), and I never...in a million years...imagined I would homeschool.

  • Then I met Brittany (who was homeschooled, and quite normal).

  • My friend Amelia started homeschooling.

What's Kept Us Homeschooling (12:15)

Tiffany…

  • I actually enjoyed it

  • Freedom

  • It allows my kids to be MY kids

  • Seeing how going back to public school affected my older boys

Brittany…

  • Greenhouse for my children

  • Freedom

  • My kids relationships

  • The idea of whole education

  • Interest lead learning

  • Being a student of my children

Takeways (36:10)

  1. Every family and situation is different and beautiful.

  2. It's your job to discern what's right for your family (especially when others disagree).

  3. And to continue to assess and discern each year.

  4. You are THE BEST momma for your children and you are MORE qualified to teach them than any teacher.
